Art of Ping Pong
Designing for play
Brief
Working with Art of Ping Pong over several years, we supported the design and development of the ArtTable, Maxi ArtTable and The ArtNet.
Narrative
The theme here is functional art.
Outcome
Art of Ping Pong have gone on to launch collaborations with artists including Kelly Anna, Campbell Hay and Javier Calleja.
Product development
Art of Ping Pong engaged Morrama to refine their ping pong table that also doubles as a piece of art you can hang on the wall. Perfect for smaller London flats and work spaces.
The CNC’d birch ply celebrates modern joinery on the corners of the table. The playful nature is conveyed with colour pops found in a laminated top, net, pegs and steel supports.
Working closely with founder Algy Batten and various UK manufacturers we were able to achieve an MOQ which made the initial startup of this business manageable.
Maxi ArtTable
Morrama were subsequently invited to design full size ping pong tables for the Art of Ping Pong, which would be manufactured in the UK and introduced at a launch party in Book Club in East London.
Using the manufacturing techniques available to us, we created a ping pong table that can also be used in an office environment, through the use of elements such as a removable net, brass cable organisation and storage space down the length of the table.
The Maxi ArtTable, which itself is reflective of an art canvas, was adorned with artwork from Kelly Anna , a London based artist who creates empowering art with colourful identity. The table was launched as part of Kelly's exhibition 'She Stole The Show' in which Art of Ping Pong was a guest collaborator.
ArtNet
Unable to go out for the evening, what better way to pass the time than play a game of ping pong on your kitchen table? We’d already started designing a simple put up, put down table tennis net for Algy when the pandemic hit, but it couldn’t have come at a better time.
The brief was to focus on manufacturing in the UK and keeping the design as simple and elegant as possible. Wood, metal and bright beautiful colours is very much the style throughout the Art of Ping Pong collection, so we worked to that.
The result is a beautifully minimal zig-zag design in three sections. Self supporting they can be positioned to span a wide range of table widths and stack perfectly when not in use. Alternatively you can hang them on the wall and bring a touch of bright coloured fun into your living space.
Now available to purchase they have also done a limited edition collaboration with Goodhood.
