Boxx
A smart home boxing experience
Brief
To design a boxing bag that looks beautiful in the living environment.
Narrative
Two key considerations for at-home fitness products are convenience and context. It should be easy to access and look great in your home.
Outcome
The patent pending fight and storage mode design, plus user experience considerations such as easy assembly and customisation opportunities make this boxing bag the stealthy best in class.
"The design is subtle and approachable but don't be fooled, the engineering and technical elements of this project meant we had to go the full 12 rounds"
- Ben Melvin, Lead Designer
Considerations
Two key considerations for at-home fitness products are convenience and context. People want to have workout equipment in their living space because it removes the barriers of having to travel and pay for the gym and pre-book classes. Therefore we have to ensure that we are making it as easy as possible for them to use. The second challenge is context. Everyone’s homes are different. Some people have kids, pets (and plants!) that need consideration and safety becomes a top priority.
Patent pending design
The key innovation in the Boxx bag is the ability for it to go from Fight mode to Storage mode. In Fight mode the dampening is active and the bag absorbs the impact of the users punch so that the base remains stable. Once filled correctly, it will not move about. This means no risk of the bag toppling over and landing on your Monstera (or worse) whilst allowing you to unleash those heavy hits just like you would at the gym.
When rotated down into Storage mode however, the dampening is locked and the user can easily tilt the bag onto its wheels and roll it into the corner of the room out of the way. Intended to be filled with upwards of 140kg to ensure it is going nowhere in a workout, the clever design means that you can still wheel it around with ease even after a tough session.
The patent pending fight and storage mode design, plus user experience considerations such as easy assembly and customisation opportunities make this boxing bag suitable for just about anyone.
Kickstarter
Launching on Kickstarter in November 2021, the project raised over £200,000.
